“ваши волосы стали длиннее…”
He would think she isn’t at all startled by his sudden appearance, if not for the way she halts in her movement for the briefest of moments.
“It’s been a while,” she replies nonchalantly and turns around. She crosses the room without haste and sits down across of him. They both have been trained to stare down others, never to be the first breaking eye-contact, so there is a long moment of silence as they both just sit there, assessing one another,
“What are you doing here, Barnes?” she finally asks softly. “I cannot help you.”
ваши волосы стали длиннее = Your hair is longer
Part of the “Natasha Knows Bucky” series: The exact moment Natalia Alianovna Romanova realizes she will be seeing The Winter Soldier again very shortly.
She literally looks like she’s gonna throw up. She looks like she’s gonna be sick–– not only is one of the most important people in her life in critical surgery, but somebody else that she once cared deeply about is responsible. She’s not only scared for Fury’s life now, but now she’s scared of seeing the Winter Soldier again, years after she left the Red Room behind and joined S.H.I.E.L.D. The Winter Soldier is the embodiment of Natasha’s old life, and she is terrified to potentially face him again. She knows she’ll have to–– Steve isn’t just going to let this go, and Natasha isn’t sure she can either–– so this is her trying to wrap her head around it, trying to keep her cool, trying to breathe. Steve doesn’t even notice her tense next to him.
"a long time ago, Natalia Romanova made me remember what it was to feel human. and they punished us both for that, in different ways…”
During the Cold War, there was a theory that one agent in the right place, at the right time, with the right skills, could be more effective than an army. It was the Cold War, after all, and that’s how it was fought. In the shadows, behind enemy lines. I should know, I lived through a lot of it. And she lived through it all.
