Luke Skywalker by Uncannyknack

one of the saddest and most underrated moments in star wars is when luke is dragging his father’s body and all of the people who had been working for vader are fleeing and not giving a fuck about the man they used to serve except luke would not abandon him even after all the shit he did he still loves his father when no one else in the galaxy does and that fucking kills me
you know, the scene where luke cuts off his father’s hand in episode 6 is probably one of the greatest scenes in the trilogy. when luke looks down at his gloved hand, i always got the impression that it was implying “see this is what the dark side will do! you’re turning into a machine like him!”
but i also like thinking of it as a way that luke related to his father– there was a story behind why anakin lost his arm, that anakin had gone through similar things that luke is going through now, and that’s why he threw his lightsaber down in an act of fearlessness. he wasn’t scared of becoming like his father necessarily, he was reminded that his father was still human. that his father would save him. he knew that his father was still good, and seeing that vulnerable part of him reminded him of it and snapped him out of his rage. it wasn’t fear he felt in that moment, it was compassion
